Basic PBR Task

  1. Indicate the controller you will use in this task.
  2. Indicate the number of trials to complete.
  3. The task will begin 2-seconds after you click the Start Task button.
    Acquire the targets as-instructed, holding them until instructed to release.
    • A successfully-acquired target turns green.
    • An error is indicated by buzzing and targets turning yellow.

A blue GO target will appear on the left side of the screen.
A red STOP target will appear on the right side of the screen.

Task Description

Once you click Start, you will see a blue square flash, indicating that you should click, press the button, or initiate movement to otherwise indicate you have detected the presence of the target. Please HOLD this state until the red target appears. We will also measure how quickly you RELEASE the target, once it disappears. Yellow squares, accompanied by buzzing, mean you acquired or released the target too early (no guessing!)

We are measuring how quickly you can react ("push"), and also how quickly you can "release." This is particularly important for myoelectric interfaces, since we anticipate a difference in responsiveness when it comes to individual motor unit recruitment thresholds vs. de-recruitment thresholds.
